Each year, the Ella M Whitney Award is presented to one member of the graduating class who best exemplifies the qualities and ideals of Ella M. Whitney, an 1891 graduate of then Worcester Normal School.
In 1931, Whitney provided the financial support to establish the Ella M. Whitney Award. The qualities of the award recipient include scholarship, social aptitude, personality, leadership, executive ability, growth, loyalty, integrity, and above all else, participation in school activities. The award recipient must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be considered for the award.
The Ella M. Whitney Award is announced at the Academic Achievement Awards at the end of the spring semester.
To nominate a deserving student, please complete the nomination form detailing why you believe this student meets the criteria listed above and should be considered for this award. All nomination forms are due by Friday, February 18, 2022.
A committee of administrators and faculty will meet to review each of the nominations and select the award winner based on the criteria and the quality of the nominations. The committee will have representatives from Athletics, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Residence Life, and other interested faculty and staff.
