Friday, February 22 – Sunday, February 24
Cape Cod, Mass
Join the OSILD staff and other student leaders for a weekend in Cape Cod to learn more about you leadership skills and abilities! Unlike any other leadership training we offer, this weekend is designed for you to get to know yourself and your fellow students better. We are excited to be focusing the Leadership Summit on the Student Leadership Challenge. This program is the centerpiece of all of our leadership programs!
The Student Leader Summit is a weekend experience where student leaders can learn more about their personal leadership development as it relates to the Student Leadership Challenge. Students will participate in various activities that help them relate their experiences to the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership.
The Student Leadership Challenge, developed by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, focuses on the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership; Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. Activities and lessons based around these practices help students identify when they are using their best skills to lead others and how to make extraordinary things happen.
By the conclusion of the Leadership Summit, participants should be able to:
- Define their personal leadership style as is relates to the SLC
- Define and demonstrate the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership
- Provide positive and constructive feedback to team members
- Show appreciation for their team members
Competencies addressed include:
- Group dynamics
- Giving and accepting feedback
- Active listening
The Student Leader Summit is open to all members of student organizations, leadership programs, student employees of the OSILD, and those by special invitation. A $10 deposit is required to reserve your space, $5 of which will be returned to you when the bus departs for the weekend. Please pay your deposit by cash at the OSILD desk on the 2nd floor of the Student Center. The last day to register and pay your deposit is Wednesday, February 2ns.
