Student Leadership Trip to Washington DC

Audience: Students
March 16-22, 2020

This spring, the President’s Office will once again be hosting their Student Leadership Program to Washington D.C. During spring break, students will be meeting with members of the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation, attend policy briefings on U.S. higher education issues, attend a play, and take a tour of the U.S. Capitol and the White House. Students will also have time to explore Washington D.C. and experience the larger cultural opportunities of the Nation’s Capital.

This is a comprehensive leadership program that requires student participation for the first half of the spring semester, beginning with weekly meetings in January. Students will be expected to attend meetings and training workshops, complete reading assignments, and compile their talking points for when they meet with elected officials.

Applications are due Friday, October 18 and can be completed at this link.

Applicants must be actively involved on campus, in good academic standing, with a clean judicial record. 12-16 students will be selected to participate in the trip, with the final decision to be made within the President’s Office.

A participation fee of $300 is required for all students selected, with most costs of the program underwritten jointly by the President’s Office and University Advancement. Accommodations are available for students with profound financial need. Certain meals and out-of-pocket expenses are also the responsibility of each participant.

Please submit any questions you or your students have to Carl A. Herrin and Patrick Hare.
